Comparison of universal earplugs suitable for concerts
(user remarks)
Etymotic Research EtyPlugs ER-20
+ the most Hi-Fi universal earplugs on the market – best sounding
+ minimum sound distortion compared to foam earplugs
+ safety cord with a clip is in the standard accessories
+ metal carrying case can be added to your keys
+ you can converse with them (don't muffle the sound too much)
+ available in two sizes (this is the larger size)
+- slightly protrudes from the ear – can be easily placed and removed, but can be seen, and it is annoying when you brush against them, that's why they are not suitable for sleeping or for use under the helmet
- you ca't make a call with them, they need to be removed from the ear
- in long-time use they are not as comfortable as Alpine earplugs
Etymotic Research EtyPlugs ER-20 mini
+ very similar sound to the larger ER-20
+ minimum sound distortion compared to foam earplugs
+ safety cord with a clip is in the standard accessories
+ metal carrying case can be added to your keys
+ you can converse with them (don't muffle the sound too much)
+ available in two sizes (this is the smaller size)
+ for me are more comfortable than the larger size of ER-20 (but I didn't use them for longer periods of time, or several days in a row yet)
+- slightly protrudes from the ear – can be easily placed and removed, but can be seen, and it is annoying when you brush against them, that's why they are not suitable for sleeping or for use under the helmet

Alpine MusicSafe Classic
+ minimum sound distortion compared to foam earplugs
+ two pairs of sound filters with different sound reduction strength (silver and gold)
+ very comfortable even when used several-days-long (festival), in few minutes you almost can't feel them in the ear
+ you can converse or make a call with them (don't muffle the sound too much, especially when using the silver filter)
+ plastic carrying case can be added to your keys
+- completely inside of the ear – don't protrude fron the ear, suitable for sleeping and for use under the helmet, but for removing them you may need a special tool from the standard accessories
- no safety cord with a clip
- a little bit stronger sound reduction on high tones than ER-20 (silver filter)
- a bit stronger sound reduction on high tones than ER-20 (gold filter)
Alpine PartyPlug
+ great price/performance ratio
+ minimum sound distortion compared to foam earplugs
+ very comfortable even when used several-days-long (festival), in few minutes you almost can't feel them in the ear
+ filter with the same attenuation characteristic as silver filter from MusicSafe Classic - suitable fot listening to the music
+ you can converse or make a call with them (don't muffle the sound too much)
+- completely inside of the ear – don't protrude fron the ear, suitable for sleeping and for use under the helmet, but for removing them you may need a special tool from the standard accessories
- no safety cord with a clip
- don't have carrying case that can be added to the keys, but are supplied in a plastic case
- a little bit stronger sound reduction on high tones than ER-20
Conclusion:
For concerts I'd rather recommend Etymotic Research ER-20 (the size that suits your ear better) because of a bit better sound (even if the difference is not too big), for long-time use (e.g. several days taking festival) I'd definitely recommend Alpine earplugs (PartyPlug or MusicSafe with silver filters).
